Beatrix Potter Class - Year 2
Year 2 Well-being weeks
What an exciting start to Year 2 we have had! We have enjoyed getting to know your children and have had great fun hearing about the adventures that they have had with their ‘Stanley Stick.’ It would seem that their sticks have been all around the country and even as far as Africa! We have loved looking at all the photographs and hearing about the children’s summer.
We all enjoyed a lovely walk to the woods in the autumn sunshine and the children were delighted to find the conkers that had fallen onto the ground. Many came back with pockets full of them! Our Year 2 children have proved themselves to be excellent den builders and we look forward to returning throughout the year to see our changing countryside.
Week 2 saw us looking at our class namesakes. The children now have a good understanding of the work and life of Grace Darling and Beatrix Potter. We had lots of fun using paper mache, water colours, painting pebbles and creating a beautiful double page in our sketch books.
The Year Ahead
Our topic ‘Best of British’ will be the main theme throughout the academic year. Each term will see a different focus based on this.
We are currently studying a history based topic ‘Magnificent Monarchs.’ The children have already been learning about our present Royal Family but soon we will be journeying back in time to 871 AD to meet King Alfred the Great.
We will leave the children to tell you all about him and other monarchs as the timeline moves on. Look out in the Spring and Summer to see how this theme will unfold!
