Paula Radcliffe Class - Year 1
Well Being in Radcliffe Class
The new term has got off to a busy start in Radcliffe Class! We have enjoyed sharing all your photos of ‘where my trainers take me’ and hearing about the children’s adventures in the summer holidays. We then spent some time exploring our new classroom and outdoor area.
The children really enjoyed creating their own character from found materials, using alliteration to describe them and creating a home for them.
There was much excitement in Year 1 when Mrs Grove visited us to reveal the results of the ‘Great Sunflower Competition.’ The children enjoyed looking at the pictures sent in and discussing the measurements each plant had. Well done to all who has tended their precious plant over the break!
In the second week we learnt all about the famous Briton our class is named after, Paula Radcliffe. The children had the opportunity to watch Paula race and learn about her running career. The children collected facts about Paula and used ‘talk for writing’ actions to help remember them. All the children produced a detailed illustration of Paula to decorate our classroom.
The Year Ahead
Our topic ‘Where my trainers take me’ will continue though Year 1 stopping off in different places. We are currently ‘In the Dark’ but after Christmas we will be travelling in our trainers all over the world.
We will be learning about different countries and their traditions. Then in the Spring Term our trainers are in for a spot of time travel as we go back in time to learn about historic events in the recent past!
