Equal Opportunities

Equality aims and objectives

At Ursula Taylor we value the individuality of all our children, staff and community members. We are committed to giving members of our school family every opportunity to achieve the highest standards. We do this by taking account of pupil's varied experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all children.  The achievements, well-being and attitudes of our children, staff and school family matter.

We aim to achieve Equality for all by working to the following objectives:

o   We aim to act positively and have due regard to the need to challenge and eliminate unlawful discrimination – within both our school and our community.

o   We aim not to discriminate against anyone, be they staff, pupil or parent, on the grounds of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion/belief, age, level of educational need or background.

o   We aim to promote the principle of fairness and justice for all through the education that we provide in our school. We recognise that doing this may entail treating some pupils differently.

o   We seek to ensure that all pupils have equal access to the full range of educational opportunities provided by the school.

o   We constantly strive to remove any forms of indirect discrimination that may form barriers to learning for some groups of pupils.

o   We aim to ensure that all recruitment, employment, promotion and training processes are fair to all, and provide opportunities for everyone.

o   We aim to challenge personal prejudice and stereotypical views whenever they occur

o   We value each pupil and staff member’s worth, celebrating the individuality and cultural diversity of our school community, and showing respect for all minority groups.

o   We are aware that prejudice and stereotyping are often caused by poor self-image and also aware of the relationship between that and ignorance. Through positive educational experiences, and support for each individuals legitimate point of view, we aim to promote positive social attitudes and respect for all.

Equality Policy

We have developed an Equality Policy which explains how we meet the objectives detailed above and provides additional information which you may find useful.

The policy complies with the Equality Act 2010 and also the Public Sector Equality Duty.

A paper version is also available and can be obtained by contacting our school office.

Accessibility Policy

As part of our Duty to ensure accessibility for all, we have completed an audit of school accessibility and also reviewed the curriculum arrangements to ensure that all children can access our curriculum provision.

The following Accessibility Plan details the arrangements for review and the audit documents used to create the plan.

A copy of the plan and associated documents is available upon request from the school office.
